A short bio:
Erik Deumens grew up in Antwerpen, Belgium and studied physics and mathematics at the University of Antwerp. He has been a student of Hatha Yoga since he was 17, following the teachings of Iyengar. He studied philosophical and religious texts on world religions, including the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, for which he learned Sanskrit. That led to a practice of Ashtanga Yoga until today. After his PhD in computational nuclear physics he moved to Florida in 1985 to study at the Quantum Theory Project at the University of Florida (UF) in Gainesville, FL. He ended up working there several decades building computer models of chemical reactions. Since 2011, he is the director of the department of UF Information Technology Research Computing which supports all high-performance research computing activities in research and education on UF's supercomputer HiPerGator. Since 1976, when he first learned about quantum mechanics from the Feynman Lectures, he has been on a quest to understand the foundations and interpretation of quantum mechanics. He is still working on that today.
