This is an extra special interview. Yes, they are all special. But, this one is extra.
Teri and I met a few years ago on Facebook. Her wit, intelligence, and grit impressed me right away. I knew she was dealing with ALS- amytropic lateral sclerosis, otherwise known as Lou Gehrig's disease. I didn't know how far along it was until I asked her for an interview and she told me she could not speak.
Not one to be stopped, Teri and I found a way to record this interview over the course of several weeks. I sent questions to her and she responded by typing with her eyes, the same way she wrote her book.
I shed several tears reading her book. It's the story of how this healthy young woman, a serious Buddhist practitioner and psychotherapist, newly married, deals with the diagnosis of a terminal disease that would rob her of everything physical, including her ability to speak.
No Pressure No Diamonds is available from Amazon. Look for Teri A. Dillion as the author. This is one of the best books I have EVER read. It compares to Viktor Frankl's Man's Search for Meaning. But, it's much better written and infused with Teri's special humor.
In October 2021, Teri took her life, on her terms under a Colorado law that allows people with terminal illnesses to die with dignity. Teri was surrounded by friends and family and went out the way she lived, on her terms. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to know her and to introduce her to my audience.
